LOCOG has unveiled the route for the London 2012 Olympic cycling road race with Buckingham Palace providing the starting and finishing point.

The route will go through central London before crossing the Putney bridge in Fulham, followed by a loop of Surrey county, and will begin and end outside the Queens residence.

The men’s race will feature 145 cyclists, over 250 kilometers, on the 28th July, 2012, while the women’s race will be held the following day with 67 riders competing over 140 kilometers.

The route has been altered to the one offered in the original proposal for the London Olympic bid, which would be more concentrated around north London, and a test event has been planned in August.
