Plans for a giant fabric wrap designed to cover the outside of the new 2012 Olympic stadium in London are to go ahead despite initially being dropped last year.

Following last year’s Comprehensive Spending Review by the government, public funding for the £7m curtain was removed.

However the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) are now calling on the private sector to supply the funding for the wrap.

Paul Deighton, CEO of LOCOG said: ‘We have had significant interest in supplying the stadium ‘wrap’ from the private sector, so now is the time to start a formal tender process’.

The Olympic stadium will be seen by a global audience of 4 billion people during the 2012 games and will host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as athletics events.
