Sky Sports has announced a partnership with online video publishing platform Ooyala for game clips and highlights of its Premier League coverage.

The clips will be syndicated using Ooyala Flex, the company’s media logistics solution, enabling Sky Sports to deliver hundreds of Premier League in-game clips and highlight packages for online and linear consumption to 40 international licensee partners in minutes.

During live broadcasts Sky Sports’ production team will upload clips to its storage system, enabled Ooyala Flex to automatically transform it into 20 different versions to then be created into packages based on partner preferences.

Rags Gupta, general manager, EMEA at Ooyala, said: “This is an extraordinary syndication contract and set of requirements. Today, TV whether online or linear, and especially for sports, is in a constant state of immediacy, requiring broadcasters and publishers to rethink very foundational systems and processes that have worked for decades. Without Flex and the art of automation for Sky Sport’s unique use case, they would not be able to meet the syndication demands from the Premier League.”

Phil Marshall, head of in-house production, Sky Sports added: “Ooyala Flex gives us the confidence, and frankly, the capability to meet the Premier League’s requirements. There’s no question that automation has a significant role in video production today. Using Ooyala Flex, we’re able to meet the complex demands associated with this project.”
