Optimist Performance, a specialist team-building, leadership and inspiration consultancy founded by former England Sevens captain Ollie Phillips, has officially partnered with Sport Industry NextGen.

The beginning of the collaboration will see the Optimist team deliver the ‘Kick Off’ event, the first session in a year of training and development opportunities for 2021’s cohortof leading industry professionals, with further sessions from the organisation planned for later in the programme.

To begin with, Phillips will work with Russell Earnshaw and John Fletcher – both former players and coaches – and Grand Slam-winning former Wales Captain Ryan Jones to welcome the 2021 Leaders to the programme and introduce them to the concept of ‘Creative Leadership’.

All of this will be done alongside Sport Industry NextGen’s group of inspiring Coaches, who include the likes of Chris Grant, Leon Mann, Ama Agbeze, Dame Katherine Grainger, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Alastair Campbell, and Joanna Coates.

Throughout the intensive afternoon, Optimist Performance and the Coaches will work with the Leaders on exploring their own styles of leadership, questioning what makes them successful in it and what habits they can develop moving forward to grow as industry talents.

After the ‘Kick Off’ the Leaders will then move on to a tailored year-long Leadership Package which includes extensive training, personal developmentand networking opportunities. They’ll get direct access to some of the brightest minds and best organisations within sport and business, for interactive best-practice, learning, and leadership sessions.

Ollie Phillips, Optimist Performance Founder, said: “This is a really exciting project for us to work on and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Sport Industry NextGen. The programme has an incredible track record of discovering, nurturing and supporting the very best talent theindustry has to offer, and we’re proud to be a part of the 2021 cohort’s journey.

Throughout the ‘Kick Off’ event we’re hoping to unlock the Leaders potential and make them think critically and analytically about their own styles of leadership. Alongside the Sport Industry NextGen Coaches – who arean illustrious group – I’m confident we can get the year off to a great start.”

Alex Coulson, Managing Director Sport Industry Group, added: “A huge thanks to Ollie and the Optimist Performance team, who are set to provide a great introduction to the Sport Industry NextGen programme this year. Their blend of leadership and team-building is going to force the Leaders to think really differently about themselves, and expertly supported by our incredible Coaches it’s going to be an eye-opening day for the 2021 cohort to start their year.”
