Orange has signed up with the IRB to sponsor the 2007 Rugby World Cup with the
contract to also include the provision of mobile content.
As part of the deal, Orange will provide a dedicated Rugby World Cup 2007
mobile WAP portal for European customers; video clips from the 48 tournament
matches; as well as a news and results service.
Commented IRB chairman Syd Millar: ‘With less than a year to go until the
opening match kicks off in Paris, there has been unprecedented demand for
tickets, all six global partnership packages have been sold and now we have
another major sponsor on board.’
Orange has a long-standing commitment to major sporting events and has a
strong affiliation with rugby through its association with the French Rugby
Federation, the Top 14 League and the Romanian national team.
The IRB Rugby World Cup commercial programme now incorporates six worldwide
Partners: Visa International, EDF, Peugeot, GMF, Société Générale and SNCF; and
four official sponsors – Heineken, Vediorbis, Capgemini and Orange.
