Organisers of the Commonwealth Games are ‘seriously concerned’ with delays in the handing over of several venues in Delhi.

The athletics stadium, swimming complex and Games Village have still not been completed with the Games due to take place in October.

A statement from the organisers read: ‘There remains much to be done to ensure cohesive games delivery from the opening of the Games Village on 16 September.’

It was recently confirmed that England is set to take its largest ever squad to a Commonwealth Games despite security concerns following a bomb blast at an IPL cricket match in Bangalore last month which injured 14 people.

Athletes from 71 nations, mostly former British colonies, are set to compete at the Games.

The commission has recently spent four days in Delhi assessing the city’s readiness to host the Games and listed 38 potential issues that need to be addressed, a significant improvement on the 70 issues named in December.
