The Press Association has announced an agreement with Opta to become the only licensed UK re-seller of official football data for the four professional football leagues in the UK including the Premier League from next season.
The three-year agreement with the leagues’ Official Data Partner will commence from the 2013/14 football season, and will allow PA to continue to supply its UK-based customers with core match data – and related products and services – covering the Premier League, The Football League, Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League.
Opta signed new partnerships with the Barclays Premier League and Football League, as well as the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League, earlier this week.
The licence will also allow PA to drive new business opportunities in the UK market.
Tony Watson, PA’s managing director, said: ‘PA has been a trusted partner to the UK professional football leagues – and supplier to the UK media market – for the past 11 years. This agreement will allow the organisation to provide both its existing and new UK-based customers with a high standard of data related products and services.’
PA’s football data products and services are driven by API’s to multiple platforms, linking football data with editorial, images, graphics and video.
PA is the current official UK data rights holder covering the English and Scottish football leagues, and has worked in partnership with Football DataCo to collect, store and distribute football data since 2001.
