Paddy Power Unveils Henry Ad

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has launched a tongue-in-cheek advertising campaign building on the furore surrounding Thierry Henry’s controversial handball that saw France progress to the World Cup Finals at Ireland’s expense.

The new ad welcomes all overseas visitors to Ireland, with the exception of people named Thierry.

The bookmaker has taken over the baggage hall in the arrivals area at Dublin Airport for the campaign, which will run over the next two weeks on 42 illuminated posters.

The posters read: ‘Paddy Power welcomes you to Ireland… unless you’re called Thierry.’

The bookmaker is not the first company to look to take advantage of the incident. Following last week’s World Cup qualifier, digital agency Love Manchester created a spoof ad mimicking French brand Le Coq Sportif by creating Le Coq un-Sportif t-shirts.
