Crystal Palace has been given the go ahead to proceed with its £100m stadium redevelopment.
Croydon Council approved the plans, which will see the stadium increase its capacity of Selhurst Park from 26,000 to 34,000. The plans see a complete overhaul of the existing Main Stand, which will be replaced with a new five-storey structure.
The plans were voted in unanimously in favour of the club’s plans, which also received 4,500 expressions of support. The application will now be referred to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who needs to approve the application before planning permission can be issued.

The Premier League side has said it hopes to begin work at the end of the 2018/19 season, with the aim to complete for the 2021/22 season.
Palace chairman Steve Parish, who also spoke about the plans at February’s Sport Industry Breakfast Club, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Croydon Council has backed our plans for Selhurst Park. This project will not only transform the stadium, which has been our home since 1924, but it will also have a positive impact on the South London community.
“I wish to thank the lead officer and the councillors for their support tonight, and for all the hard work that has been put in by the council over the last few months to ensure this application was heard so quickly.
“I want to thank everyone who voiced support and those connected to the club who worked so hard over the last few months towards this very important step in the dream of a new Crystal Palace for Crystal Palace.”
