Papa John’s has announced plans to inject £250,000 into football communities with its ‘Together We Can’ fund.

Having recently entered into partners with the EFL – as Title Sponsor of the EFL Trophy (now the Papa John’s trophy) – and a partnership with SPFL in Scotland, the pizza delivery chain has launched the new fund to impact nearly 12 million people in the UK that are involved in the grassroots game.

Local football clubs all over the UK will have the chance to apply for access to a £100k fund, distributed by a Papa John’s committee to give grassroots clubs a boost, while it has also pledged to provide £150k worth of brand-new football kits to clubs all over the UK in 2021.

The fund will also look to provide equipment for grounds-persons, training for match officials, and also improved facilities for those serving refreshments, as it looks to encompass all aspects of the sport at grassroots level.

“The global pandemic has had a devastating effect on grassroots football, and the coming months are crucial when it comes to ensuring its future,” said Giles Codd, Marketing Director, Papa John’s.

“We are very proud to have announced several sports partnerships recently including those with the EFL, SPFL, ParalympicsGB. Our plan is to launch our ‘Together We Can’ mantra at Wembley this March, to show Papa John’s commitment to helping ensure that grassroots football can continue to support the physical and mental health of those involved all over the UK.”

The announcement comes ahead of the Papa John’s Trophy ‘Wembley Weekender’ which will see Portsmouth take on Salford City in the delayed 2020 final on Saturday 13th March 2021 – before a new name is put on the trophy just 24 hours later as Sunderland take on Tranmere Rovers in the final of the 2021 competition.
