Online fashion retailer, ASOS, has partnered with the British Paralympic Association (BPA) to design formal and ceremony wear for ParalympicsGB, creating a ‘capsule collection’ for the team to wear as the curtain rises on the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The athletes wore the ASOS formal wear for the first time on 16th July at the ParalympicsGB Team launch celebration in London.
Athletes will be provided with a ‘capsule wardrobe’ of simple pieces to wear at a range of official team occasions.
The designs will be worn by over 250 selected athletes, plus support staff, on official ParalympicsGB business. This includes formal team appearances, such as team launch, in addition to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Lauren Steadman, who will compete in Para-triathlon at Rio 2016, said: “This is a really exciting moment as we get to meet athletes from all the different sports and come together as team mates for the first time. It’s the one time we swap our training kit for formal wear before the Games, and our bespoke ASOS outfits help make us look and feel even more like a world class team. I’m more focused than ever now, to be able to represent ParalympicsGB on the best stage in disability sport.”
John Mooney, ASOS creative director menswear & production, said, “We are proud to be the formal wear supplier for the ParalympicsGB Team and enjoyed meeting the athletes representing our country. We enjoyed designing clothes that will make them look and feel their best at the Games.”
