Former Manchester United and QPR player Park Ji Sung has been announced as a global ambassador for AirAsia.

As part of the deal, the South Korean star will feature in print and video advertisements and make appearances at events for the low-cost airline, run by Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes, who also owns Premier League side Queens Park Rangers.

To mark the one-year partnership, AirAsia has launched a new Airbus A330 with livery featuring Park, which will be used to fly passengers travelling to and from Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Australia, China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.

Park, who managed just 20 appearances in his brief stint at the London club, said: ‘It is great to work with Fernandes. His philosophy and the AirAsia brand is something that I highly resonate with.’

Park became the first Asian player to win the UEFA Champions League when he helped Manchester United lift the trophy in 2008, and became a global ambassador for the club in October after announcing his retirement from the game.
