Rick Parry is to leave his post as chief executive of Premier League club Liverpool at the end of the season.

Parry’s departure is expected to be announced officially this weekend following rumours of a rift with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez who wants greater control over transfers in his protracted talks over a new contract.

Parry’s relationship with Benitez and American co-owner Tom Hicks has been strained, but in November he pledged his loyalty to the club after he was linked with the chief executive’s post as part of the Football Association’s 2018 World Cup bid.

At the time, Parry decided to remain at Anfield, despite being the top contender from a five-man shortlist for the job.
