Alan Pascoe MBE, the former champion athlete turned industry leader, was awarded the Barclays Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious BT Sport Industry Awards on Thursday evening in recognition of his profound contribution to the sport industry.
In front of more than 1,750 industry professionals, sport stars and celebrities, Pascoe was presented the award by double Olympic gold medallist Edwin Moses at the premier awards night in the British sporting calendar.
Moses commented: “There are few people in this industry who have had such a seismic impact on the business of sport. Alan Pascoe’s vision and drive have shaped not just his success on the track, but a career in business that has spanned 38 years of reinvention. I can think of no more deserving a recipient of the Barclays Lifetime Achievement Award and no more of an appropriate setting than the most comprehensive gathering of industry leaders to celebrate Alan’s achievements.”
Pascoe commented: I’m jealous of the young people starting in this business – because I wish I was starting again. You’ve got a great industry – most people would give their right arm to be in this business.
Having begun his career as a successful 400m hurdler, including medals at the Commonwealth, European and 1972 Olympic Games, Pascoe went on to play a transformative role in the UK sport industry. The sports agency he founded, API, became one of the top three sponsorship companies in the world with offices in 13 countries. He then moved on to Fast Track and continued to progress and develop the business until retiring as President of CSM this year. He has also played key roles in helping rebuild UK Athletics as well as in bringing the Olympic Games to London as Vice Chairman of London 2012.
The Barclays Lifetime Achievement Award has been previously won by an array of celebrated dignitaries whose work and dedication has changed the nature of the sport industry forever including David Walsh, Sir Philip Craven MBE and Sir Alex Ferguson.
