Online football media brand, Goal, has announced that it will be broadcasting this year’s FIFA Club World Cup across social media, after its parent company, Perform Media, secured the exclusive UK digital rights to the 2017 and 2018 editions of the tournament.
The deal means that UK-based fans of Real Madrid will be able to watch the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions defend their title in United Arab Emirates (UAE) next month for free.
The 2017 FIFA Club World Cup takes place between 6th and 16th December in the United Arab Emirates, with matches taking place in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Teams taking part include: Real Madrid; OFC Champions League winners, Auckland City; UAE Pro-League champions, Al-Jazira, and the as yet unnamed winners of the Copa Libertadores.
Goal will have highlights packages and extensive reporting throughout the tournament.
Goal’s head of English language, Sam Brown said: “Securing the rights to the FIFA Club World Cup is tremendous for Goal, but also for the millions of fans who rely on us for their football news and coverage. At no cost, fans in the UK will be able to watch, through Goal, the likes of Ronaldo, Modric and the rest of the stellar cast of Real Madrid compete in the UAE as they look to both defend their 2016 championship win and equal Barcelona’s three FIFA Club World Cup championships.
“While it’s clear that Real Madrid are main draw for the competition, we recognise that Goal’s fans are interested in the global game and hungry for live football, whether that’s broadcast through traditional means or across social media platforms.
“We’re looking help fans feel as close as possible to the action in the UAE, both on the pitch and outside the stadiums, as well as showcasing how Goal covers international tournaments ahead of the World Cup in Russia next year.”
Chris Ricketts, Perform Media sales director added: “Securing these rights is another demonstration to our brand partners that Perform lead in delivering exclusive sports content to fans at scale.”
