British free-to-air broadcaster ITV has secured the rights to highlights of PFL Europe.
This will be ITV’s first move in MMA and will see one-hour highlight shows air on ITVX 24 hours after the live broadcast concludes. It will also be shown on ITV4 the Friday after each event, with the first programme airing on 31st March.
James Frewin, SVP of PFL International, said, “ITV is the home of entertainment in the UK and we are delighted to be partnering with a platform that is synonymous with media and sport. MMA has become a mainstream sport here in the UK, so when you add to this the PFL’s unique season format based on true values and meritocracy it makes us the perfect partner for ITV.”
PFL Europe, the first PFL competition outside of the US, began at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle on 25th March. The promotion’s next event will take place at the Verti Music Hall in Berlin on 8th July.
The winners of each PFL Europe regular season event will advance to the 2023 PFL Europe Play-off at the Zenith in Paris in September. The final event of the season will see four PFL Europe Champions crowned at the 3Arena in Dublin in December.
The full live broadcast of the PFL Europe events will be available on Dazn, after the PFL agreed a joint venture with the global sports and entertainment platform.
PFL Europe is not be the only MMA competition available on free-to-air television in the UK. Last month, the BBC renewed its broadcast deal with promotion Bellator MMA.
