Golf’s PGA Tour has announced an expanded scheduled for the 2019/20 season, with a number of changes having been made to accommodate next summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The schedule includes a net increase of three tournaments over the 2018/19 season, with 11 of the 46 regular-season events to be held between September and November.

The opening segment includes the new ZOZO Championship in Japan and the Bermuda Championship, along with the return of A Military Tribute at the Greenbier and the Houston Open. The latter two tournaments will return following one-year absences following their transition from mid-season dates in 2018.

The Tour will have an open week during the men’s Olympic golf competition, from 27th July to 2nd August. The season then resumes with the Wyndham Championship and three FedExCup Playoffs events.

In the lead-up to the Olympics, the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit will move forward a month to late May, with the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and Barracuda Championship moving from late July to the first week of the month, swapping dates with the 3M Open.

The 2018/19 season will conclude in August at the Tour Championship, with the 2019/20 campaign to begin in the week of 9th-15th September with A Military Tribute at the Greenbier.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said: “For the second year, we’re excited about kicking off the Season of Championships with The Players in March, bookended by the FedExCup Playoffs in August, and the return of the Olympics in that window.

“As for the early-season portion of the schedule, our players grasp the importance of a strong start in the Race for the FedExCup and this has translated into growth and momentum for the events played in the fall.”

The FedExCup Playoffs will begin one week later due to the Olympics and conclude in the final week of August.

The rescheduling of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational may lead to the European Tour’s Irish Open event being moved. The WGC is due to be held in the first week of July, a slot traditionally held by the Irish Open.
