The PGA Tour has signed a partnership with Twitter, which will see the social media platform stream live from the competition for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
Twitter will livestream 70 hours of the competition globally, with PGA Tour Live providing the stream. Twitter will have access to the first 60 to 90 minutes of the stream on Thursday and Friday mornings.
The stream will provide action from the first two holes of 31 events and provide interviews, range coverage, and pre-round analysis.
Users will not need to be logged in to access the streams, meaning no Twitter account is required to gain access.
As part of the agreement, it also includes an extension on the PGA Tour’s deal with Twitter’s Amplify, and a pledge to make more highlights and non-live video available on both Twitter and Periscope.
Rick Anderson, chief media officer, PGA Tour said: “Twitter and the PGA Tour have been working together on Twitter Amplify for many years now, and the programme has been a tremendous success for both companies. Streaming PGA Tour Live programming to Twitter’s global audience, as well as the millions of users who follow @PGATOUR and hundreds of PGA Tour player accounts, will provide new and innovative ways for sports fans to engage with our premium OTT offering.”
Anthony Noto, Twitter, chief operating officer added: “The PGA Tour continues to transform the experience for fans on Twitter, a place where golf conversation is happening live in real time every day. Our collaboration with the PGA Tour will provide fans all over the world access to watch live streaming PGA Tour events on Twitter while following the conversation all on one screen.”
