Pl May Attract £1bn In TV Rights

Reports have suggested that the English Premier League is set to announce that deals for its worldwide television rights will be pushed above the £1 billion mark.

The current agreements around the world for the rights to show the Premier League games are worth £645m, but the deal comes to an end at the end of the season.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore is reportedly confident that the new three year deal will surpass £1billion, but negotiations with some countries are still going on.

Domestic rights for the broadcasting of Premier League matches are currently held by Sky, ESPN and BBC and are valued at £1.8 billion.

The current estimate is that each of the top 20 Premier League clubs will receive £50m from the new television revenues.

The figures for the new worldwide rights to screen top Premier League matches are set to be published shortly.
