Platini Calls For Clubs To Disband G14

Michel Platini, the new UEFA president, has made a plea to Europe’s top football
clubs to disband the G14 group.

Platini has called for the members of G14, which represents the interests of
18 European clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, to break
up and voice any concerns they have through a new committee – the Professional
Football Strategy Council.

G14 is currently taking on UEFA and the world football governing body FIFA in
a variety of high profile lawsuits over compensation for players injured on
international duty.

‘We can stop seeing each other before the courts, we can stop making a
spectacle of ourselves in front of the whole of Europe,’ said Platini.

He added: ‘Presidents and heads of the major clubs – let us profit from your
great experience and your ideas. Tell us about your convictions. UEFA’s door is
wide open – join us, and I promise you that you will not be disappointed.

‘I am convinced that you will hear this appeal, because it is being made in
the sense of history, and with progress at the service of football in mind.’

Platini made the comments at UEFA’s extraordinary congress in Zurich over the
weekend.
