The PlayStation Schools’ Cup, the grassroots football partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ FA (ESFA), has announced it has now reached over 150,000 competing English schoolchildren since its launch in September 2013.

Now in its third season, PlayStation is backing 20 boys’ and girls’ national football competitions from under 12 to under 15. As part of the partnership, the participating schools receive a PlayStation Schools’ Cup football and a PlayStation Kit Bag, featuring equipment including training bibs.

Knockout rounds of the competition run from September to April, with the National Finals hosted at a professional football stadium, which for the past two years has been Reading’s Madejski Stadium.

The PlayStation Schools’ Cup Tie of the Round roadshows visit schools with events themed around a Premier League player visiting a school that is hosting a fixture. The tournament has been backed by stars such as Juan Mata, Harry Kane, Jack Butland and Gary Cahill.

The Cup also has a partnership with Sky’s grassroots sports show Sky Sports Game Changers and marketing research showed 40% of PlayStation Schools’ Cup awareness came through TV coverage.
