Police Target £20,000 Wimbledon Ticket Touts

Police are targeting touts at Wimbledon that are selling tickets to watch Andy Murray matches for as much as £20,000 each.

The touts are exploiting legal loopholes to sell the tickets as the tournament is not classed as a designated sporting event, therefore touts can avoid legal action by using certain phrases when selling tickets.

If touts use a phrase such as ‘tickets for sale’ they can avoid prosecution, but if they say ‘any tickets for sale’ it is considered as a request to buy passes from spectators and is illegal.

Some touts are even appointing solicitors to advise them on how to avoid arrest but police are set to use anti-social legislation that allows them to search for illegal tickets.

Police are also able to designate streets around the All England Club as no-trading zones.
