With a week to go until the host nation announcement, Premier Inn has sealed an agreement to back the England 2018 World Cup bid, becoming the organisation’s 47th sponsor overall.

The deal comes as a boost ahead of FIFA’s decision in Zurich next week on the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts.

Jonathan Gregory, director of partnerships at England 2018 who has been responsible for the organisation’s impressive commercial portfoilio, said: ‘It’s fantastic to gain the support of Premier Inns at this crucial period of the campaign. They are our 47th sponsor, across 3 tiers and this support reflects the desire this country has to bring the World Cup to England in 2018.’

The bid got another significant boost this week as Prince William confirmed his attendance at the FIFA World Cup vote in Zurich. He will joined at the FIFA presentation by London 2012 chairman Lord Coe and former England captain David Beckham.

Another sponsor of the bid, Morrisons, has also revealed that 1.6m people had signed up in its supermarkets to support the bid.

It is rumoured that England 2018 are in negotiations to secure more partnerships in the run up to the bid decision next week, taking the amount of sponsors over the 50 mark.
