The Premier League has backed the continuation of its players taking the knee ahead of the new season.
The league has reinforced its No Room for Racism campaign with a new Rio Ferdinand narrated video explaining the actions of the players and asking for their support.
Why do players take the knee?
It’s a symbol of pride and identity.
It’s about demanding change.
It’s more than just a gesture.If you’re a supporter, support this | #NoRoomForRacism pic.twitter.com/elkeW8Yvki

Earlier this month, the league’s players reaffirmed their commitment to taking the knee, saying in a joint statement: “We feel now, more than ever, it is important for us to continue to take the knee as a symbol of our unity against all forms of racism.
“We remain resolutely committed to our singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect and equal opportunities for all.”
Across the 2021/22 season, both players and match officials will wear a No Room For Racism sleeve badge on their shirts.
The league says the badge will ‘act as a constant reminder’ of the commitment made by the league, it’s clubs, players, and referees to tackling racism and racial inequality.
The Premier League says it worked with the PFA, LMA, Kick It Out, and the FSA to produce the video above.
