Malaysian pay-TV network Astro has renewed its broadcast partnership with the Premier League until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Under terms of the agreement, Astro will continue to exclusively air all 380 matches per season from English football’s top-flight in Malaysia for the next three years. This builds on a long-term relationship between the pair, with Astro broadcasting Premier League fixtures since 1997.
Selected games will also be shown in 4K ultra high definition.
Euan Smith, Astro’s Group Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive of TV said, “2021 was a big year of sports, but 2022 promises to be even more exciting for sport fans in Malaysia. We would like to thank the Premier League team for choosing to put their trust in Astro again, continuing our successful, long-standing partnership with the league.”
Paul Molnar, the Premier League’s Chief Media Officer, added, “The Premier League is pleased to continue our excellent partnership with Astro, and we are very happy that they view our league as a vital part of their live sports offering.
“They will be an outstanding home again for the Premier League over the next three seasons and we look forward to working together to showcase the league to new and existing fans throughout Malaysia.”
Financial terms have not been disclosed but the deal is next in a long line of overseas broadcast deals secured by the Premier League. Income from broadcasting deals will see the league surpass £10bn in revenue over the next three seasons.
