Lord Stevens’ report into corruption in football transfers among top flight
clubs is expected to be presented internally to a three-man Premier League
committee this week.
The report, which is expected to identify clubs and agents accused of taking
bungs in football transfers, will initially be reviewed by the committee who
will then decide whether any disciplinary proceedings will be taken.
Only should such action be taken will the identities of those alleged to have
breached transfer rules be made public. At this point, the Football Association
may also be informed of the findings to take any action it feels is relevant.
Former police commissioner Stevens gave an update of his inquiry to club
chairmen on 2 October when he revealed his preliminary findings of 362 transfers
between 1 January 2004 and 31 January 2006.
In this update, Stevens stated that he had found that 39 deals had to be
further investigated and that they involved eight of the 29 clubs that had been
part of the top-flight during the span of his inquiries.
