In an exclusive interview with SportIndustry.biz George Primarolo, racecourse manager at the Tote, has revealed that there is still no movement on the sale of the betting company.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced last year that the privatisation of the company would go ahead but, as yet, there has been no buyer.

Primarolo said that the future of the company is not in its hands: ‘As far as we are concerned it is all being dealt with by the DCMS (Department for Culture Media and Sport) and we get updates from them and at the moment it is business as usual.’

‘We are currently half-way through a three-year business plan and we are sticking to that until we get told otherwise. People ask about this but it is truly out of our hands – so as far as I’m aware there has been no initial updates since the prime minister made his announcement last year,’ added Primarolo.

He also added that the Tote will continue to look for potential sponsorship opportunities in football after the company secured a deal with Premier League club Hull City last year: ‘We are constantly looking for any deals to expand our presence any way we can and we see football as the ideal opportunity.’
