EMD UK, the national governing body for group exercise, has appointed sports and fitness communications agency Promote PR.

Sport England’s most recent ‘Active Lives’ report revealed over 8.9 million people choose group exercise to stay healthy. EMD UK’s remit covers everything from dance fitness, high intensity interval training (HIIT) and group cycling, through to yoga and Pilates.

Established in 2006, EMD UK is endorsed and funded by a variety of partners. Sport England awarded EMD UK £1.76m of funding for 2017-19, almost double the amount received for the equivalent period of the previous funding cycle.

Promote’s support for EMD UK will encompass media relations, expert placement, speaking opportunities and raising awareness of research campaigns and product launches.

Ross Perriam, CEO of EMD UK, said: “It was clear to us from the outset that Promote share our vision for getting more people active through group exercise. We’ve seen Promote consistently deliver effective campaigns for other national governing bodies; demonstrating their vast experience and expertise both within the sector. We very much look forward to working with the team.”

Sue Anstiss MBE, CEO at Promote PR, added: “Group exercise is consistently ranked in the UK’s top five most popular physical activities, with participation increasing year on year. We are thrilled to have been chosen by the team at EMD UK and look forward to sharing more news about the extensive range of work they deliver across the physical activity sector.”
