British Swimming has appointed Promote PR to manage marketing and communications for the 2019 IPC World Para Swimming Championships, which will take place at the London Aquatics Centre.
London was only confirmed as the new host of the rearranged championships earlier this week, with British Swimming stepping in after the International Paralympic Committee stripped Malaysia of the right to stage the event.
Malaysia was removed as the championships’ host nation after failing to provide the IPC with the necessary guarantees that Israeli swimmers could participate without encountering discrimination.
The championships, which will run from 9th-15th September, will mark the second time that the event has taken place in the UK following the 2015 edition in Glasgow.
It will also represent the first time that a major international para swimming event has taken place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park facility since the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Promote will take the lead on stakeholder engagement and broadcaster relations, with key milestones in the months ahead including the launch of ticket sales and confirmation of Team GB’s line-up.
Jack Buckner, CEO of British Swimming, said: “Promote were a natural choice for us with their breadth of experience working with sports brands and large-scale events, coupled with their knowledge and connections in the industry.
“We’re excited to be working with the team to ensure we have a sell out at the London Aquatics Centre this September and to build an extensive audience in London for high-profile, elite swimming events.
“We’ve already started this with the FINA Diving World Series, which takes place at the London Aquatics Centre from 17th-19th May 2019.”
Promote’s CEO, Sue Anstiss MBE, added: “We all remember the incredible atmosphere during the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and we’re delighted to have been chosen to lead on a project to re-create the excitement and buzz around the World Para Swimming Championships.”
