Prostate Cancer UK has become an Official Charity Partner of the League Managers Association (LMA) in 2014/15. Through the partnership the LMA membership will be encouraged to get behind the Men United v Prostate Cancer campaign including wearing the Man of Men pin badge on match days and play their part in supporting and promoting a range of exciting ventures during the 2014/15 campaign.

The charity will also feature prominently in LMA communications as well as the LMA quarterly magazine publication, ‘The Manager’.

Prostate Cancer UK’s director of fundraising, Mark Bishop said: ‘The manager sets the tone for any club, so we are really excited to kick-off this partnership with the League Managers Association.’

‘From our Charity partnerships with The Football League and Millwall to fresh relationships with Kidderminster Harriers, Non-League Day and The North West Counties Football League this season, football has proved to be an incredibly powerful way to raise awareness and this partnership will further help us in our quest to save men’s lives.’

‘It’s humbling to see so many managers wearing our Man of Men badge on touchlines up and down the country, and the added engagement in players, club staff and supporters involved in events such as our Men United match days and our charity cycle rides has been phenomenal.’

‘We look forward to working with the LMA across a range of exciting ventures as we join together to help beat this deadly disease.’

Richard Bevan, chief executive of the LMA added: ‘The LMA is delighted that Prostate Cancer UK has become an Official Charity Partner for the 2014/15 season.  Not only to help raise awareness to the public but also to help raise awareness of the disease across our membership.  Prostate Cancer is a very real condition for all men and using football as a means to get key messages across is something the LMA is keen to support.’

This latest move dovetails with the organisation’s ever-growing presence in football, and the official logo of Prostate Cancer UK will be worn more than 60,000 times on players’ shirts in the Sky Bet Football League next season, following a unique agreement between The Football League and its Official Charity Partner.

From the beginning of the 2014/15 campaign, Prostate Cancer UK’s distinctive Man of Men symbol will be included on every single player’s kit as part of his individual squad number – the first time ever that a charity’s logo has been included by a domestic league on every player’s strip.

The Football League received approval for its initiative from the FA Council earlier this week.

The pioneering partnership between Prostate Cancer UK and The Football League aims to reach over 16 million fans across the terraces up and down the country, raising awareness of the disease which affects 1 in 8 men sometime in their life and kills over 10,000 men a year.

The Men United v Prostate Cancer campaign was launched at a breakfast briefing at The Football League HQ on 24th January with comedian Bill Bailey assuming the role of team manager.

Big names from the world of show business including Stephen Fry, Sir Michael Parkinson, Ray Winstone and Damian Lewis, together with England sporting icons Michael Owen, Les Ferdinand and Will Carling, have all signed up to Men United which has now got a squad of more than 170,000 members.
