Psa World Championships Appoints Paul Walters

Paul Walters has been appointed as event director of the 2017 Professional Squash Association (PSA) men’s and women’s World Championships in Manchester.

Walters’ sports management company, internationalSportgroup, has a track record of delivery sporting events including the annual AJ Bell British Squash Grand Prix and Allam British Open.

The championships take place from the 9th to 17th December, with 200 of the world’s best squad players taking part in the week-long tournament. For the first time, prizes for both the men and women will be equal at $45,000.

Eamonn O’Rourke, England Squash director and chair of the Championship Stakeholder Board, said: “Following the success of the 2008 and 2013 Squash World Championships, we are delighted once again to be working with Paul to deliver the Championships to an unprecedented level. Already we have pushed the boundaries with delivering both the Men’s and Women’s event concurrently, and ensuring equal prize money.”

Walters added: “England Squash, Manchester City Council, UK Sport and the Professional Squash Association share an ambitious vision to deliver a hugely successful and memorable championships that widens the reach and appeal of the sport.

“It’s a great privilege to be working with these stakeholders to help deliver a wonderful showcase for squash at such an exciting time for the sport.”
