Racing for Change, set up by a variety of stakeholders in British horse racing four years ago to unify and promote the sport, will now work under the name Great British Racing with a new, permanent mandate.

Great British Racing will be a promotional and marketing body for British horse racing, tasked with broadening the appeal of the sport in the UK, increasing revenues and protecting jobs within the industry.

Racing for Change initially to bring the sport to a new, younger audience, with the sport struggling at the time, due to waning media interest and little or no growth in attendance rates.

However, in the four years since, the sport has grown in key area, signing new sponsorship deals, an exclusive TV deal with Channel 4, huge festival attendances, growing turnover and record prize money.

Great British Racing, which is supported by key stakeholders in British racing such as the BHA, the RCA, the Horsemen’s Group and the Levy Board, will be led by Rod Street, who was chief executive of Racing for Change and is also chief executive of Racing Enterprises Limited and British Champions Series Limited.

As well as promotion within the UK, the new entity will lead the marketing of British horseracing to domestic and international high-net worth individuals, a role previously undertaken by British Bloodstock Marketing, which will cease to function from the end of March.
