Coral, the high street bookmaker, has announced the signing of ex England, Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan midfielder Ray Wilkins to its newly created role as Director of Football.

Becoming the only betting company to ever appoint a Director of Football, Ray, capped 84 times by England, is seen as being a massive attraction for highly rated football bettors to join Coral, according to the official release.

By taking the role, Ray joins the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Eric Cantona and Frank Arnesan currently occupying the same position for Real Madrid, New York Cosmos and Hamburg respectively and will officially begin his new post from 18th January.

In what is his first footballing position since leaving Chelsea in November 2010, Ray is signing people looking to ‘move for the money’ to Coral.

Ray has also revealed his first signings as Director of Football – Barry Bale, 32 from Hull, Derek Lampard, 29 from Preston and Adam Cole, 24 from Croydon.

Ray Wilkins said: ‘I’m delighted to be joining Coral as their first Director of Football. A major part of my initial role is going to be to make sure the best people move to Coral this January and I’m hoping my years of experience in professional football will be able to help with this.’

‘The offer from Coral is second to none, providing customers with more top prices than any other high street bookmaker, so I want to do all I can to help people realise the best offer is here and by signing to Coral this January they really will be moving for the money.’

Commenting on the appointment, Olly Raeburn, retail marketing director at Coral added: ‘We are extremely pleased to be appointing Ray Wilkins to the position of Director of Football. There’s nobody more experienced than Ray when it comes to attracting the best talent to a football team, and with more top prices on offer at Coral than anywhere else on the high street, it made sense for us to get a top man on the job of signing new customers for us as the transfer window draws to a close.’
