Mass participation group Nova International has announced that a record number of participants have taken part in the Bupa Great Run Series in 2013, with over 200,000 people participating in Bupa Great Run events this year.

The milestone was reached as the final runners crossed the finish line at the Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth yesterday.

The 2013 Bupa Great Run Series started in Edinburgh in January, with Olympic legend Mo Farah making his debut this year in the Bupa Great North Run in September.

Nova staged 13 mass participation running events in the UK in 2013- adding two new Scottish events to their portfolio, while record funds were also raised for charities with over £20million generated for a variety of causes.

Nicky Homes, commercial director at Nova International, said: ‘This year’s Bupa Great Run Series has been a remarkable success. To have over 200,000 people taking part in running events across the UK is a great achievement. Running is the basis of almost all physical activity and it continues to grow in popularity. We believe that the high-quality of our events means that even more people will want to take part in Bupa Great Run events in 2014.’

Nova International will stage their final event of the year – the Great Ethiopian Run – in Addis Ababa in November when over 37,000 runners will take to the streets.
