The world’s biggest sports radio station, talkSPORT, has achieved record listening figures according to industry figures released today, with the radio station’s four daytime shows each achieving over one million listeners – a new station record.
The station reached 3 million listeners for this quarter, an increase of 3% from the previous quarter. Listening hours have also increased to 19.8 million, up 5% from the previous quarter.
At weekends, the return of live Barclays Premier League football commentary has seen a 24% increase from the previous quarter in the number of listeners on a Saturday afternoon.
Moz Dee, talkSPORT programme director, said: ‘It was hugely challenging for talkSPORT, but our staff worked extra hard to deliver for our audience through the Euros, Olympics, Paralympics and back into another exciting Barclays Premier League season. Coupled with the launch of our international service it’s been busy here. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into our new rights and partnerships with the FA Cup, Capital One Cup, England Internationals, and Aviva Premiership Rugby.’
Scott Taunton, talkSPORT’s chief executive, added: ‘talkSPORT has achieved a terrific set of results this quarter, which are all the more impressive when you compare them against our main competitors and the radio industry as a whole. The station offers fantastic opportunities for advertisers and sponsors and is continuing to build on the investments that we have made in both rights and talent.’
