Red Bull F1 Recruits Sir Chris Hoy

The advanced technologies division of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team has partnered with Skarper to develop a technology that can convert any bicycle into an electric bike.


The agreement sees brand Skarper, which six-time Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy is a founding investor, partner with Red Bull Advanced Technologies on the project.

Skarper has worked with the engineer’s of Red Bull to make the product smaller while increasing its power output.

The device, which is expected to be fully launched later in 2024 contains a 250-watt motor with a range of 60km. It can be attached to any bicycle to convert into an electric one.

Christian Horner, Team Principal at Red Bull Formula 1, said, “This partnership with Skarper demonstrates how F1 expertise can help to improve everyday technology for the benefit of the public.

“The device is an incredibly clever piece of engineering and we have been able to make it smaller and more powerful thanks to our own talented engineers.” 

Sir Chris Hoy, former Olympian and Founding Investor to Skarper, added, “We’re incredibly grateful to Christian Horner for supporting a British start-up with developing this device that we believe will revolutionise the cycling sector and benefit riders worldwide.”
