Redmond Signs With Right To Play
Southampton striker Nathan Redmond has become an ambassador for Right To Play, an international children’s charity that uses sport and play to improve the lives of vulnerable children in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Redmond, who made his senior England debut against Germany in March, is now lending his voice to raise awareness for the movement.
During the 2017/18 season, Redmond has committed to supporting Right To Play by making a donation for every goal he scores and every assist he makes, which means that every goal could give 33 children access to Right To Play programmes for a whole year.
Redmond, who has scored seven goals for Southampton since his summer move from Norwich last year, commented: “Football has shaped my whole life and I feel passionately about the power of sport and play to change lives. Through sport you learn about respect and hard work, you learn about trust and working together, you grow confidence in yourself and learn that you can make a difference and shape your own future.
“I believe every child deserves the chance to succeed and reach their potential. I’m excited to be working with Right To Play and now I need to score some goals this season to give more children the right to play.”
The launch of the partnership coincided with Southampton’s match against West Ham United on Saturday, which was also World Humanitarian Day, a United Nations day which aims to rally support for people affected by crises around the world.
Redmond made an assist in the 3-2 win, meaning the partnership kicked off with a donation.
Right To Play works in 52 refugee camps around the world, helping to meet the needs of some of the 11 million children who have been displaced by war and violence.

Nathan joins a group of Right To Play athlete ambassadors who embody the best values of sport and help raise awareness and funds for the children in Right To Play programmes.
