The Rugby Football League has said it is delighted with the success of its Magic Weekend which saw an entire round of Super League matches staged in Edinburgh.

All 14 teams travelled to Edinburgh for the Murrayfield Magic weekend in which seven matches were played in the Scottish city over two days.

RFL chief executive Nigel Wood stated: ‘It’s certainly been well-attended and the standard of play on the field has been excellent. It’s been a great spectacle for all concerned – fans and players alike.’

Just under 60,000 supporters flocked to Scotland for the weekend and there were several shock results, including Wigan beating arch-rivals and table-toppers St Helens.

And the RFL remain confident that next year’s road-show – also in Edinburgh – will prove to be a similar success.

‘We’re back here next year – it’s a two-year arrangement and we’re certain that it’s very popular with fans,’ Wood said.

‘We’ll do some research and consultation with supporters groups and clubs to see if there are any tweaks to the schedule or improvements we can make but on the whole I think we’re pretty satisfied we’ve got a formula that’s attractive.’
