England’s new-look squad could be heading for a considerable financial bonus if they can successfully defend their Six Nations crown, with the Rugby Football Union reportedly prepared to reward the squad with a £1,852,890 pay out for a successful campaign.
The maximum bonus would, however, only come into play if England were able to claim their first grand slam since 2003.
England kick off their title defence against Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday.
The Daily Telegraph reports that a Championship clean sweep would also keep alive hopes of securing a further £200,000 squad bonus should they win all 12 of their matches this year.
Those 12 matches include the three-Test series with South Africa in the summer and the visit of Fiji, Australia and the Springboks in November.
The newspaper also reveals that match fees and win bonuses for the Six Nations have increased from last season with members of the match-day squad set to receive £9,224 per game as opposed to the £8,869 they earned last year, while the win bonus has been increased from £2,956 to £3,075.
With a further team bonus of £500,000 on the table should England win the Grand Slam then a match-day regular would be £84,222 richer at the end of the campaign.
That figure would then drop to £72,858 should they win the title, but not the Grand Slam, as they did last year.
