The International Cricket Council has announced that former South Africa wicketkeeper Dave Richardson is set to take over from Haroon Lorgat as the new chief executive of the global governing body next month.
Richardson has been recommended by the ICC nominations committee, which interviewed four candidates in Mumbai.
The 52 year-old, who will become the first ex-international to fill the role, said: ‘It is a great honour to be nominated. I am delighted with this opportunity.’
Richardson played 42 Tests and 122 one-day internationals between 1992 and 1998 and has been general manager of cricket at the ICC, the game’s governing body, since 2002.
Johannesburg-born Richardson, who is also a qualified lawyer, has been the ICC’s general manager for cricket for the last 10 years and will also be the first person to be named CEO of the ICC while already working for world cricket’s governing body.
His appointment is expected to be ratified at the ICC’s annual conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 28th June.
Lorgat announced last November that he will stand down next month after four years in charge.
