Serie A club Juventus has reported selling a record 520,00 shirts bearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s name – all within 24 hours of the striker’s official unveiling in Turin.

The Italian club also saw its Twitter following grow by more than one million accounts overnight.

The news follows industry speculation about the value that 33-year-old Ronaldo brings to Juventus, which invested more than £180m in luring the star from Real Madrid.

While sales of the shirts look on track to dwarf the total 850,000 sold by the Italian giant across the whole 2016-17 season, industry observers have been quick to point out that clubs’ share of kit sales revenue is often much lower than believed. On average, kit suppliers recieve 85-90% of replica sales revenues.

Speaking at a press conference in Turin, Ronaldo commented on his move to Juventus and the Italian league, saying: “I’m here because it’s a brand new challenge for my career, Juventus is a big club. Coming to such a great club at this stage of my career makes me very happy.”

The Portuguese megastar, who boasts more than 200 million social media followers worldwide, has also been named in third place on the 2018 Instagram Rich List.

The value of a single sponsored post from Ronaldo is estimated at $750,000 compared to $1m for model Kylie Jenner, who holds top place in the global ranking compiled by HopperHQ.com
