British Military Fitness (BMF) has signed up The Royal British Legion as the title sponsor for its mud and obstacle run series, re-named The Royal British Legion Major Series.
More than 20,000 runners are expected to take part across seven UK events next year, with organisers aiming to raise £250,000 for the Royal British Legion, which helps the Armed Forces community.
It is the first time in the charity’s 94-year history that it has teamed up with a sports event, with news of the partnership announced at a log-carry challenge and work-out in Hyde Park on Sunday.
The first of seven Royal British Legion Major Series events will be held in the Midlands on Saturday, 12th March next year, with half a dozen further mass-participation events planned across the UK throughout the summer.
The series is delivered by BMF and at each race a 40-strong platoon of genuine military or ex-military personnel line the course and support the runners.
Alex Stanley, head of events at BMF and race director of The Royal British Legion Major Series said: “We feel honoured to be partnering with The Royal British Legion and look forward to working together. This marks the first time in the Legion’s 94-year history that the charity has teamed up with a sporting event. This is a ground-breaking partnership.
“We plan seven amazing events next year and we’re asking everyone who takes part to fundraise for The Royal British Legion. Our event is a fun day out for the whole family and our motto is ‘No Mud, No Glory!’.”
Charles Byrne, director of fundraising at The Royal British Legion, said today: “We are thrilled with our new partnership with British Military Fitness and excited to be launching The Royal British Legion Major Series, which will help raise funds for our vital work with the Armed Forces community.
“We can’t wait for people to start getting muddy for money when the series starts next year. I would urge everyone to sign up early for The Royal British Legion Major Series and secure your place for these fantastically fun events.”
Race director Alex Stanley added: “The Royal British Legion Major Series is accessible and ideal for all ages and abilities. Our runners are aged 17-70 and 55 per cent of people who take part are female. Anyone can take part. Our 5km course, with 15-20 obstacles, is ideal for entry-level first-timers and participants with a wide range of fitness levels. Our 10km course features 30+ obstacles and is a bigger challenge.”
