Mutual life and pensions company Royal London has announced its sponsorship of the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) Benevolent Fund as part of a deal that will extend through to the end of 2017.

The Benevolent Fund is a registered charity and is part of the PCA’s commitment to helping current and former players and their dependants in times of hardship and upheaval, or to readjust to the world beyond the sport.

Royal London is the title sponsor of both international 50 over cricket and the domestic 50 over trophy, The Royal London One-Day Cup (for both men and women). The new partnership represents the development of Royal London’s existing sponsorship portfolio and reflects the company’s aim to help those plan for their financial future.

The launch of the new PCA and Royal London relationship was celebrated on Friday 14th November at the PCA Team England Lunch at Lord’s Cricket Ground ahead of the team’s departure to Sri Lanka on Sunday 16th November.

Clare Salmon, Group Brand Director, Royal London, said: ‘We have had a brilliant year supporting English cricket as a major sponsor. It’s as quirky, inclusive and British as we are. We share an obsession with jargon and quantitative performance analysis.  We are delighted to be able to support the work of the PCA Benevolent Fund, which does such valuable work in supporting current and past players in need. As a financial services company we believe in helping people plan for their financial futures; the PCA does a great job in helping professional cricketers plan for life beyond cricket and we very much want to be a part of that.’

Commenting on its new sponsor, Angus Porter, PCA Chief Executive added: ‘We are absolutely delighted that Royal London, a true partner for English cricket, has chosen to offer generous support to the PCA Benevolent Fund. With their help, we will be able to offer more help to more people, and for that we are very grateful.’

England men’s cricket captain, Alastair Cook, said: ‘The PCA Benevolent Fund is a cause close to the hearts of all professional cricketers, and is one of the four charities which I am supporting personally this year as part of my own Essex County Benefit.’
