Royal London, the life and pensions company, has launched its title sponsorship of one-day cricket at international, county and recreational levels. The launch event, held at London’s Royal Opera House, was attended by some of English cricket’s top players including Stuart Broad, Ben Stokes, Charlotte Edwards and Wayne Madsen.
The four-year sponsorship deal includes Royal London ODIs: forty matches over four years against Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa as well as Royal London Women’s ODIs, Royal London One-Day Cup (men’s), Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup, Royal London National Club Championship and Royal London Junior County Cups.
The launch event took place ahead of the first Royal London ODI this Friday, as England visit Scotland in Aberdeen, the first international for England under new coach, Peter Moores.
Rupert Pennant-Rea, Chairman of Royal London, said: ‘Cricket is a very British sport and Royal London is a very British company. We are happy to be working in partnership with the ECB to help them develop one-day cricket at an international and domestic level. As a mutual, we are particularly pleased to be helping them sustain local communities through the grassroots development of the sport.’
David Collier, ECB Chief Executive, added: ‘It is with great pleasure that we welcome Royal London as our newest commercial partner. Our commercial and broadcast deals provide the foundation and long-term stability for our investment in cricket from the playground to Test arena, and this deal is further proof of cricket’s popularity in England and Wales.’
Charlotte Edwards commented: ‘It’s fantastic that the women’s game is included within this sponsorship package, particularly the women’s county competition, as this helps to increase the profile of women’s cricket at all levels in England. The England women’s team has performed exceptionally well over the past ten months, winning back-to-back Women’s Ashes series and reaching the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 final, and we are really looking forward to carrying this momentum forwards throughout the three Royal London Women’s ODIs against India later this summer.’
Stuart Broad added: ‘One-day cricket is such an important part of the game and it’s great for us that it attracts sponsors like Royal London. I’m really looking forward to the cricket we have this summer and can’t wait for it all to get started.’
