Rum producer, Santa Teresa, has been confirmed as a business partner of The Rugby Players’ Association (RPA).
A family run, independent business, with the tag line ‘We Play Rugby. We Make Rum’, Santa Teresa has been producing rums in Hacienda Santa Teresa, Venezuela, for more than two centuries and are present in more than 30 countries worldwide.
As well as being recognised for its high quality products, Santa Teresa has received recognition for its social responsibility projects including The Alcatraz Project and Rugby Santa Teresa. Since its inception in 2003, more than 1,800 former gang members, boys and young children have participated in the programme, which uses rugby to tackle gang crime in Venezuela.
Participants will voluntarily complete community service, civil values training, vocational training, psychological assistance and rugby training. The Alcatraz Project received a Beyond Sport Award 2009 as the best social inclusion initiative for using a sport as a tool to promote social change.
Leanne Ware, brand manager, Santa Teresa said: “Santa Teresa has become synonymous with producing fantastic rum. However, it is also its commitment to helping tackle social issues with The Alcatraz Project and their focus on rugby that has also showcased Santa Teresa’s values and purpose. Santa Teresa is proud to partner with the RPA who are integral to enhancing the key attributes that rugby can offer both on and off the pitch.”
