The RFU’s official website received 122m hits and 2.1m unique users during the Rugby World Cup the governing body has announced.
As England progressed to the final, supporters’ interest in its dedicated tournament website www.rfu.com/2007 achieved hit rates measuring 500 per second during peak times.
The 2007 RWC website features included elite rugby director Rob Andrew’s column and Taity’s Talk – a twice weekly diary by Mathew Tait – which received 8,000 and 15,500 page visits respectively.
The RFU hired Akamai Technologies, Inc. to meet these peak usage requirements and help deliver a consistent service.
