The head coach for the Russian diving team is Team GB diving’s new national performance director.

Currently heading Russia’s team, Alexei Evangulov will replace Australian Steve Foley, who resigned after this year’s Olympics, in March.

While there were high expectations for British diving in Beijing, namely pinned on 14-year-old media darling Tom Daley, the team failed to bring home any medals.

It is hoped that the appointment of Evangulov he will improve the team and the chance of Team GB diving victory at the London Olympics in 2012.

Evangulov has been with the Russian diving programme for over a decade and has overseen the team for five Olympics. He guided the national squad to three silver and two bronze medals in Beijing.
