Rwc Starts Hunt For Telecoms Partner

The tender process for the IT and telecoms rights contract for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2011 has been opened.


Rugby World Cup Limited, in conjunction with Rugby New Zealand 2011 Limited, have announced the opening of the tender which covers the requirements of the tournament from the IT and telecommunications perspectives.


These include the provision of systems integration services, tournament information and management systems and a hardware requirement for the media centres and administrative offices.


In addition, the tender includes the provision of hosting and other services in relation to the official tournament website and other IRB online properties.


From the telecommunications perspective, the tender covers the areas of data and voice network provisioning, as well as mobile network systems and wired headset communication.


The tender process will close on 31st October, 2008 with the appointment to be handled jointly by RWC Limited and IMG, the exclusive commercial representatives of the tournament.


The Rugby World Cup in 2007, hosted by France, enjoyed a cumulative global television audience of over 4bn, while attendance topped the 2m mark for the first time in RWC history.
