Banking giant Santander has confirmed that it will extend its sponsorship deal with F1 team McLaren ahead of the 2011 season.
The bank has been a sponsor of McLaren’s driver Lewis Hamilton since 2007 and used the 2008 World Champion in an advertising campaign last year as it looked to build its presence in the UK.
As part of the renewed deal the Santander logo will appear on the helmets and overalls of Hamilton and team-mate Jenson Button.
Santander UK CEO Ana Botín said the deal was essential to boosting its UK profile: ‘The relationship that we have built, initially with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team, and now its drivers, has been integral to creating and building the Santander brand in the UK.’
The bank hit the headlines last year after it insured Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso’s thumbs to the tune of almost £9m as part of a life and accident package arranged by Santander.
