Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is set to take his knowledge of the game to the television studio after signing up as a leading pundit on both BT Sport and ITV, ahead of the new season.
The 39 year-old has agreed a four-year deal with BT Sport becoming one of the channel’s leading analysts for their Premier League coverage, as well as the Champions League football that will arrive in the channel’s rights portfolio from the start of the 2015/16 season.
Grant Best, BT Sport’s senior channel executive producer, said of the news: ‘Paul has proved himself to be a forthright and astute pundit since he hung up his boots.’
‘His recent opinions have been every bit as tenacious as his tackling on the pitch. It is fantastic that we have been able to sign up a legend like Paul to offer a unique insight, based on a record of consistent success at the highest level of the game.’
The midfielder will also feature on ITV’s live Champions League coverage next season from the group stages onwards.
Niall Sloane, ITV director of sport, added: ‘Having won the competition twice with Manchester United and played a key role in their European campaigns from the 1990s until his retirement in 2013, Paul brings his phenomenal expertise and insight to our team and we’re all looking forward to working with him this season.’
Renowned for rarely speaking out in his playing days, Scholes has branched out in recent months with criticism of Wayne Rooney in his Paddy Power blog and of Manchester United under David Moyes.
